Fort Berens Meritage 2022
British Columbia, CanadaThe 2022 Meritage takes 40% Lillooet estate grapes along with fruit from Osoyoos, in a mix of 70% merlot, 19% cabernet franc, and 11% cabernet sauvignon. The destemmed and crushed fruit was cold soaked for 4 days prior to inoculation, and each variety rested solo in barrels for 15 months prior to the blend. Tar and gravels open the nose, before dusky blackberry and cassis fill in, with ample smoky baking spices, bittersweet cocoa, and paprika to season the juicy palate. Tannins are sinewy, but now yielding into the fruit, giving ample structure for big grilled meat / veg pairings.
