Burrowing Owl Meritage 2021
Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaIt's hard to follow up on the sensational 2020 Meritage from BOV, but when you add a hint of smoke, it gets even dicier. That said, you could argue that the smoke is a more of a complex-er here because it's pretty subtle, but the impact still takes away from this wine's vitality. The tannins are well managed, the textures are soft and round, and it's easy to drink, so I'll give it that. I bet many will not even notice the smoke, but we can be more demanding.
