Burrowing Owl Meritage 2017

Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis year's Meritage blends 59% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot, 18% cabernet franc, and 3% petit verdot, into a mix of 80% French, 20% Hungarian wood (20% new), where it remains for 18 months. Alain Sutre consults with BOV, and most importantly, on this wine, their flagship. Cedar, pencil shavings, red fruit are reflective of the higher portion of cab sauv in this vintage, as is the structural component. Merlot plushes out the middle, while cab franc adds a herbal branchiness. Quite a made wine, with each component quite disparate at this point, though with a serving of roast beef, all will come together.Tasted: 26 August 2020Tasted by: Prices:
