That said, with air time in the glass, this grüner came right around to reveal the crisp citrus-y herbs, lime pith, wildflowers, savoury stone and green apple that I've come to recognize from this Saanich Peninsula site (and Canada's first commercially produced grüner veltliner in 2012). A slender 11 percent alcohol, finishing with shining lemon peel and delicate white pepper spice. Pour with shellfish or white fish with lemon dill and arugula. Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAthene (a-THEE-nee) takes its name from the biological genus of the Burrowing Owl Athene cunicularia, and its fruit from Oliver's Black Sage Bench. Syrah and cabernet sauvignon are co-fermented and then aged for 21 months in a mix of French, American and Hungarian oak, resulting in a well-knit spice box of exotic dark aromas and flavours. Dusky dark berry, red and black currants, sweet tobacco and dark cocoa on the nose through to a gravelly, thorny finish. Lodi, Central Valley, California, United StatesLodi zinfandel can be rich, ripe and spicy and it appears Whiplash has it all and then some. The attack is fresh if a touch acidic with a mix of black and reds fruits and the aforementioned spice in the back end. The tannins are moderate but nothing a big slab of ribs wouldn’t defeat easily.
