Burrowing Owl Merlot 2022

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2022 growing season had a little bit of everything, but in the end, it was a favourable year for the grapes. The BOV merlot came off estate vineyards in Oliver and Osoyoos throughout the latter part of October. Both free run and pressed are aged for 14 months and 14% new wood, primarily French oak (77%), with a splash of Hungarian and American oak barrels to round out the aging. In the glass, it opens with muted black and red fruit with some oak poking through, as well as a savoury desert scrub note. The texture is merlot, which is ripe and a non-issue. It has that South Okanagan boldness of blue and red fruits with just the right amount of tempering to work well with food. Beef or mushrooms would be the match today.Tasted: 08 November 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
