Burrowing Owl Merlot 2020

Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2020 Merlot comes off estate vineyards in Oliver and Osoyoos, and finished fermentation in barrels, where it remained for 14 months' rest in a mix of French, Hungarian, American, and Caucus (21% new). It was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Potent and dense, this is a powerhouse merlot, compact with black cherry, thick blackberry, anise, toasty spice and a thread of mint. Tannins are ample and grippy / gritty, uncommon in plushy, huggy merlot. You can partner this bold red with equally powerful grilled beef, or better yet, wait a couple of years for things to merge and mellow a bit.Tasted: 18 September 2022Tasted by: Prices:
