Penfolds Yattarna Bin 144 Chardonnay 2019
Tasmania, South Australia, AustraliaIt’s the blend that has set Yattarna free in recent years, allowing Gago and the team to shop around to the coolest, most marginal sites year after year and create the tightness and styling that is Yattarna. In 2019 Tasmania led the team at 57 percent, followed by a 32/11 mix of Tumbarumba and Adelaide Hills, all aged briefly for eight months in 55% new French oak. Hazelnuts and fresh pastry set the stage for an electric chardonnay perfectly fermented in oak, adding weight and texture without much obvious wood influence. Instead, it’s the flinty mineral that attracts and take this tightly wound chardonnay to another level. A barrel fermented oxidatively made chardonnay with no colour that will wow you.
