Penfolds Bin 311 Chardonnay 2019

South Australia, AustraliaBin 311’s rise to fame is a direct result of the Yattarna program that has laid the foundation for every chardonnay in the Treasury group to excel beyond its global claim as the largest selling white variety in the world. The fruit sources went multi-regional in 2018, and the wine continues to excel as winemaker Peter Gago and company go after the coolest fruit of the year. In 2019 the fruit mix included parcels in Tasmania (68%), Picadilly (25%), and Henty (6%). According to Gago, it is now a “Yattarna in waiting.” The style is similar too, with a fresh lemon-lime entry, followed by peach and a spare, mineral, bright, acid undercurrent that runs from front to back to complement the weight and textures of barrel fermentation. Once made with no oak, it benefits from the trickle-down effect of barrels coming out of the Yattarna program, so in 2019 the new oak amounts to 41%. Electric and a must buy for the price.Tasted: 09 September 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
