Burrowing Owl Chardonnay 2018
Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBurrowing Owl has always made a full-bodied, vibrant style of chardonnay, but with each passing year, there is more finesse leaking into the wine. Better oak management, more lees, and a slightly crisper acidity balances the rich south Okanagan chardonnay. The nose is a melange of peaches, baked apple, hazelnuts, and caramel corn. 2018 has a bit of extra lift in the front end that brightens the delivery. Ready to drink. Try this with halibut or crab. The estate grown chardonnay is handpicked, hand-sorted and whole cluster pressed. 15 percent of the must is fermented in stainless steel; the rest goes into a selection of French and American oak barrels. Eight months of ageing follows a partial malolactic fermentation in oak, prior to 28 months of bottle ageing. The wood is 80% French, 20% American with 47% new, 33% one-year-old, 20% two-year-old oak.Tasted: 30 May 2020Tasted by: Prices:BC | $30.00 | 750ml | winery direct |
