Osoyoos Larose 2001
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe premier edition of Osoyoos Larose has an impressive dark cherry colour. The nose is a mix of chocolate, green olive, bell pepper scents with smoke, vanilla, pepper and black cherry aromas. The entry is smooth with dry, chalky, grainy tannins throughout. Cedar smoke, pepper, black olive, cassis and vanilla flavours mark the palate of this Bordelais style red. A tight, lean, somewhat tannic finish indicates it will need several more years to open up. The blend is 66/25/9 merlot/cabernet sauvignon/cabernet franc all grown on the rolling west banks of Osoyoos Lake. A fine effort from a fairly miserable vintage. Try with braised short ribs. It improves with some 30 to 60 minutes of decanting. The first release will only be available in selected restaurants across the country. The name Osoyoos (pronounced "O-sue-use"), chosen by Vincor side of the joint venture, is an Indian word meaning narrows of the lake; while Larose reflects the interest of their French partner Group Taillan in Château Gruaud-Larose.Tasted: 13 April 2004Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $35.00 | 750ml | Speculative - Atlas Wine Merchants |
