Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThough this wine is young, and best realized over the next five years, it bears the structure worthy of its reputation in Canada. Le Grand Vin is now solely owned by Group Taillan, of Chateau Gruaud Larose in Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, and certainly this vintage is showing its Bordelaise influence. Merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, petit verdot and malbec spend 18-20 months in French oak (60 percent new). Decant, or open a day in advance. Lightly smoked branch, cherries, gravels and dusty, grippy tannins are matched by a bright acidity and carried by a lengthy and floral violet finish. Savoury and strict, to be sure, but with a southern Okanagan glow that is unmistakable. This welcomes pairing with meats now, but would be best suited to time in the cellar.Tasted: 31 March 2017Tasted by: Prices:

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWe have been waiting for this 2013 with great anticipation. Osoyoos Larose has been old-school Bordeaux but as the vineyard ages and the weather warms it looks as if it can over-deliver in exceptional year. Le Grand Vin is fully owned by Groupe Taillan (having bought out Constellation Brands) and this co-owner of Château Gruaud Larose in Saint-Julien is starting to making some impressive tweaks to its Canadian treasure. A terrific season including rain when it was needed, a warm summer and long, cool fall contributes to a wine with real finesse. Phenolic ripeness makes this the best ever Osoyoos Larose in my estimation. All the cassis and black fruit you can imagine, mixed with plums and cherries and perfect acidity makes it highly attractive even if it this will age effortlessly for a decade. It spends 18-20 months in a 60/40 split of new and one-year-old French oak, lending it complexity and some roundness.Tasted: 10 October 2016Tasted by: Prices:
