Penfolds Shiraz Bin 128 2019
Coonawarra, South Australia, AustraliaBin 128 is Australian cool climate, and in 2019 it comes with intriguing savoury notes. The fruit is grown on the famed terra rossa soils of Coonawarra, the source since the wine's inception in 1962. Winemaker Peter Gago uses a mix of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads to tighten up the fruit that seems more simpatico with Coonawarra fruit than American oak. The style is grainy, resiny with a touch of herbaceousness to set off the cherries and pomegranate along with cooler mulberry, loganberry mixed with cedar and mahogany old dresser, flecked with licorice and spice. Not as rich as the previous edition, but it is Coonawarra. 128 spends a year in French oak hogsheads (24% new, 33% one-year-old, and 43% in two-year-old barrels).Tasted: 10 September 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $50.00 | 750ml | BCLS |
