Penfolds Shiraz Bin 128 2001

Coonawarra, South Australia, AustraliaBin 128 one of the few Penfolds reds that isn't a multi-regional blend. The all Coonawarra fruit sees only French oak. In 2001, a warm vintage for Coonawarra, the 128 has an open, aromatic nose with peppery, coriander, cardamom, vanilla and smoky licorice aromas with black cherry fruit. The entry is dry and still tight with intense black cherry, smoky, licorice, spicy, cardamom flavours and sweet vanilla, chocolate pudding on the finish. Rich but elegant with finesse and fine grain tannins. The tannin will dissipate over the next two to four years making the wait well worth it.Tasted: 16 February 2004Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
