Penfolds Shiraz Bin 128 1998

Coonawarra, South Australia, AustraliaThe Bin 128 is a Penfolds anomaly, thanks to its single region origin and French oak barrels. The '98 is inky black. The nose is a lovely mix of roasted pepper, ripe blackberry fruit, with some meaty, coffee, vanilla aromas. Flavours are very similar with some extra minty, cherry, licorice flavours in the finish. This is a huge, powerful, supple red wine from an extraordinary Coonawarra vintage. Perfectly ripe shiraz from a cool-climate is a very special treat. A wine to watch and good value.Tasted: 01 March 2001Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
