Burrowing Owl Athene 2021

Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2021 Athene, always a highlight of the BOV portfolio, blends 55% syrah with 45% cabernet sauvignon, primarily from the Burrowing Owl Vineyard A8 block on the Black Sage Bench. The destemmed fruit was cofermented before moving to large oak barrels for 18 months' rest. Showing very smartly, with peppery wild black cherry, blackberry, and dark earth across a structural palate, scented with wild thorns, bacon fat, and smouldering smoked stones. Tannins are very well managed, fine and firm, making this effortlessly drinkable now, and with time ahead. Well done.Tasted: 01 September 2024Tasted by: Prices:
