Burrowing Owl Syrah 2019

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom estate vineyards in Oliver and Osoyoos, this syrah was destemmed and lightly crushed before heading to fermentation tanks (partially cofermented with viognier) for 25 days. The wine was moved to barrel to complete MLF and 16 months' barrel aging in a bizarre mix of 61% French, 24% American, 12% Hungarian, and 3% Caucasus wood, amounting to 30% new, 29% one- and two-year, and 41% third fill and older oak. It was bottled unfiltered. As per the house style, this is a massive, ripe and richly spiced red, with a cloud of perfumed exotic spices and thick layer of toasty wood cloaking ripe raspberry, blackberry, and dusky purple florals. Tannins are wood cloven, fine grained and long, trailing off to a lingering Worcestershire note. If you like not-shy wines, give this a try now after a decant, ideally with roasted lamb or beef tenderloin. Or wait a couple of years for the same pairing.Tasted: 02 March 2022Tasted by: Prices:
