Antinori Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino 2016

Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyAs you might expect, 2016 is rich, beginning with a full-blown nose of mostly red but some black fruit dusted in baking spices and anise. The palate is silky soft with a mix of tobacco, earth, floral dark cherries flecked with minerals. The finish adds a touch of salt to keep it complex. The main vineyard is located in the lower elevations of the Brunello DOCG, as its name ‘pian delle vigne’ (the floor of the vineyard) would suggest. It is built to age for a decade with ease. A big as it can be, Pian delle Vigne is always more on the elegant side, which only adds to its lustre. Fabio Ratto lovingly tends the vineyard, and the wine is quietly aged in 3000 to 8000-litre oak casks long free from any oak influence.Tasted: 19 March 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
