Antinori Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino 1998

Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyItalian vintner Piero Antinori bought close to 70 acres of prime vineyards in Tuscany's Brunello di Montalcino production zone in the early 1990s from the Castello di Camigliano. The wine Pian delle Vigne or "the plain of the vineyards," is named after an old railroad station that strands near the property. Its has an intense open nose of boysenberry, black cherry jam with gamey, spicy, smoky, licorice aromas and some orange rind. Round, rich and intense with some fine grained, but dry, supple tannins. Feminine style but good structure. Warm with ripe mulberry, black cherry, peppery, spicy, Christmas cake and some smoky, meaty notes. Will need 3 to 7 years to shine but a very attractive style and an excellent wine for the vintage.Tasted: 08 September 2003Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
