Antinori Tignanello 2017

Tuscany, ItalyOne of the world's iconic wines, the 2017 Tig, wore the challenging vintage well, with ample concentration, via the reduced quantity. This wine is always treated with the utmost care, and most certainly this vintage. From the same vineyard, a 57-hectare limestone-rich parcel at 350-400m, Tig is only made in quality years. Primarily sangiovese, this has a tip of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc in the mix. After running the wine off its skins, it underwent MLF in small oak barrels, with each vineyard lot and variety fermented separately. After blending, the wine was moved to French and Hungarian oak, new and second fill, for 16 months. Once in the bottle, the wine rested for a year before release. Savoury and elegant on the nose, with crushed violets leading the way for an intense palate of cassis, wild blackberries, perfumed black plums, and quality Kirsch. An undercurrent of worn leather and alluring anise moves the fuller, subtly supple palate through the very lengthy spiced, minted finish, all the while held upright by long, structural and firm tannins. The soils provide a surprising and welcome freshness to all this power, resulting in a great deal of harmony even at this very youthful stage. Drinking very well now, and with an easy 5+ years ahead.Tasted: 04 February 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
