Quails' Gate Stewart Family Reserve Chardonnay 2017
West Kelowna, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe SFR is the winery flagship chardonnay, and there is an excellent supply made every year. The fruit comes off two estate blocks, Fields 3 and 5, that cling to the ancient volcanic slopes of Mount Boucherie. Barrel fermentation, a full malolactic fermentation, and regular stirring of the lees revs up the power and flavour. The textures are creamy and generous, spreading effortlessly across the palate with notes of lemon curd, baked pear, vanilla, and toasted hazelnuts, all with a twist of minerality. The food matches are many, including fresh BC Halibut, Dungeness crab or local scallops.
