Château d'Yquem 1988
Sauternes, Graves, Bordeaux, FranceConsidered to be a balanced, "classic" vintage. Four weeks of no rain in October made the year supplying plenty of mango and candied fruit flavours in what is now a maturing Sauternes. It's a super stylish, extremely elegant edition of Yquem for true connoisseurs. Lurton suggests it would be perfect with crepe suzette, no sugar and a slice of orange. It was bottled with a modest 123 grams of sugar per litre and an acidity of 3.8 grams per litre at 13.5 per cent alcohol. The picking began September 29 and finished 25 November ― a long 57 days in which the fruit goes from fruity and bright to fat "and more sick" or botrytised and extremely complex. A solid year and a standout in the vertical for fans of understatement.Tasted: 15 May 2008Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:AB | $775.00 | 750ml | consignment - Dream Wines |
