Château d'Yquem 1893

Sauternes, Graves, Bordeaux, FranceWinemaker Pierre Lurton, first tasted the 1893 at a recent tasting in London and his first impression was to call it "orgasmic wine." Again, astoundingly fresh, with candied, citrus fruit flavours with crème brûlée and caramel notes. An exquisite old piece of history. The colour is quite deep yellow with brown edges. Records suggest it was a very hot spring with summer weather. Picking began on 28 August and ran through mid-October. The yields were extremely high (25 hectolitre per hectare) for d'Yquem.Tasted: 15 May 2008Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
