Château d'Yquem 1976

Sauternes, Graves, Bordeaux, FranceTasted several times now the '76 is fully mature. It was a very dry year until the rain arrived on September 15. Often a so-so or poor red wine year can be good year for Sauternes and 1976 is no exception. There was a long picking after the September rains that ran through a late Indian summer. The nose offers up a fair bit of caramel in what is not really a strong wine or powerful wine but one that is well balanced and possesses fine acidity. The colour is a touch amber. It's ready to drink now and most likely will not be a long-lived vintage for d'Yquem. No technical details were available for this vintage at the tasting.Tasted: 15 May 2008Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
