Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2019
California, United StatesThe 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a complex mix of 50% Sonoma County and 50% Alexander Valley with a 50/32/18 mix of Cooley Ranch, Rockaway, and Brothers fruit that all spends two years in 75% new French oak barrels. The Reserve philosophy begins with individual lots from “meticulously farmed sections of some of the best vineyards in Sonoma County.” The work is done at the Rodney Strong small lot Artisan Cellar by winemaker Justin Seidenfeld. It involves cluster pre-sorting and extended maceration and using small tanks to accommodate various lot sizes. From a highly regarded vintage comes an aromatic, lush, spicy black fruited wine sprinkled with pepper, espresso, and vanilla. Certainly, it has become one of the more polished reserves in Sonoma and is heading down the linear complex road, leaving the jammy notes behind. You can drink this now, but another three to five years of bottle time will repay your patience. Excellent cabernet character.Tasted: 17 January 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $74.99 | 750ml | select private retailers |
