Fort Berens Pinot Noir 2022

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAt 12.5% alcohol, I'm tempted to say this pinkish/purple pinot noir takes me back to Burgundy, but that would be a bit of a stretch. It is an inviting pinot with a soft, ripe red berry palate, moderate tannins, and a smooth, long, savoury, lightly warm finish. Tasting this blind would shock a few folks. The grapes were hand picked early in the season but at optimal ripeness. They spent two days in a cold soak before inoculation with a Burgundy yeast strain. Gentle extraction came from three pumpovers a day during fermentation, and it was aged for 9 months in mainly neutral French oak barrels with a perfect 3% addition of new French oak barrels. It's impressive and will be fun to keep track of over the next two years.Tasted: 07 November 2023Tasted by: Prices:
