Tommasi Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo 2019
Maremma, Tuscany, ItalyTommasi has been growing cabernet sauvignon for 110 years in Tuscany at the Poggio Al Tufo estate, whose name translates to Volcanic Rock Hill. Today, the tradition continues in the southwest corner of Tuscany in Maremma. The 60/40 mix of sangiovese / cabernet sauvignon comes off the Pitigliano estate, with soils rich in calcium carbonate tufa. The wine is stainless fermented and aged 12 months in large 65hL Slavonian oak casks. This wine generally sits in the more rustic lane of Tuscan reds. Clearly, the cabernet is driving the bus with a mix of black currant and bitter cherry, and sticky, dry tannins that seem to sit on the sangiovese. It is young and will mellow, so it's best to let this remain in the bottle for another two or three years. For now, pork and pasta, or a winter stew are the match.Tasted: 19 October 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $26.99 | 750ml | BCLS |
