Tommasi Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo 2012

Maremma, Tuscany, ItalyRompicollo roughly translates as "neck breaking", referring to the hard labour of farming the land in the volcanic tufa-rich soils of Maremma. This 60/40 blend of sangiovese/cabernet sauvignon spent one year in Slavonian oak barrels, and opens with warm, ripe cherry, warm stone and worn saddle. The generous, plush mouth shows much of the same, warm, softly worn red and black fruit over saddle, with ripe tannins and gently lifted acidity to a stony finish. The wine itself is the opposite of a neck-breaker; rather this is a comfortable, gentle big red to tuck into with braised pork or boar ragu.Tasted: 10 July 2015Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
