Painted Rock Merlot 2020
Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA cool start, a smaller set, and warm mid-season punctuated with a lot of smoke in parts of the south Okanagan all played havoc with area wine growers. Painted Rock has long since mastered the art of tannin management, and that, in combination with merlot tannins, presents a smooth, slippery palate that can be enticing. My issue is the fruit tastes more cooked than fresh, and at 14.9 percent, it presents a bit sluggish and tired at such a young age. It is not a disaster and would be OK with a charbroiled burger, but it is a step down in elegance and vitality in 2020. I can recommend it as buy and drink red at this point, or wine to reassess in 2024.Tasted: 04 November 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $49.99 | 750ml | BCL, winery online and select private retailers |
