Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom their estate Skaha vineyard, this high test (15.3 percent) merlot spent 18 months in French oak (30 percent new) French oak. Ripe black cherry and raspberry jam leads this full wine, with ample, gritty tannins and a lingering bay leaf, pencil shaving, black liquorice / medicinal cherry note. Hidden and a bit blocky at this time, though would work with / for warming and classic beef bourguignon.Tasted: 17 December 2017Tasted by: Prices:

Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis Skaha merlot is settling into its vineyard, and in 2014 was aged 18 months in 30 percent new French oak. Not the finesse we saw last year and at 15.3 percent alcohol you could say it’s a bit of a brute. The nose is reductive with meaty notes before the black fruit and strong savoury flavours kick in. Time is what is required here to let all the various parts blend in and the wood tannins to dissipate. You can tackle it now with T-Bone or wait for some bottle ageing to kick in and check back in 2021.Tasted: 16 December 2017Tasted by: Prices:
