Penedès, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainThis iconic Spanish wine has been in the spotlight since the 1979 Paris Judgement (The Wine Olympics) when the 1970 Mas La Plana beat out Bordeaux for the Cab Crown. From deep, limestone-rich soils in Alt Penedès, Catalunya, this cabernet sauvignon was destemmed, fermented in stainless, with a gentle extraction. This spent 18 months in French oak (85% new) barrels. Drinking beautifully now, with gravelled dark cherry, wild thorny cassis, and perfumed plum layered with cracked peppercorns and worn leather. Acidity is still bright, while tannins are softer and sunken into the fruit, propping the wine to a gently lingering finish. Certainly iconic, this is a worthy choice to crack with grilled lamb.Tasted: 25 June 2022Tasted by: Prices:

Penedès, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainA primarily dry year with some respite in late winter and summer previewed normal temperatures slightly cooler than the average growing season. Mas la Plana is fermented in stainless steel and macerated 15-25 days before spending 18 months in 85 percent new French oak. It is a highly polished cabernet with a friendly side. Blackcurrants and black plums mix with a warm, earthy undercurrent that builds complexity and tames any exuberant fruit. Elegant and balanced, this will age effortlessly and improve through 2030. Bravo Torres. Lamb shoulder would be a good match.Tasted: 30 January 2022Tasted by: Prices:
