Torres Mas La Plana 2017

Penedès, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainThis iconic Spanish wine has been in the spotlight since the 1979 Paris Judgement (The Wine Olympics) when the 1970 Mas La Plana beat out Bordeaux for the Cab Crown. From deep, limestone-rich soils in Alt Penedès, Catalunya, this cabernet sauvignon was destemmed, fermented in stainless and oak foudres, with a gentle extraction. This spent 18 months in French oak (65% new) barrels. This is showing quite smart at this youthful point, with heaps of dark florals, dark cocoa, wild berries, graphite, tobacco, seasoned with lightly toasted spices. Tannins are worn soft, and acidity is well placed, lifting the weight of this bigger red easily through the lingering, stony finish. Drinking very well now, and easily with a few years ahead.Tasted: 11 November 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
