Penedès, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainThis iconic Spanish wine has been in the spotlight since 1979 Paris judgement when the 1970 Mas La Plana beat out Bordeaux for the Cab Crown. From deep, limestone-rich soils in Alt Penedès, Catalunya, this spent 18 months in French oak (70 percent new). The wood is firm and gritty around the sides still, housing savoury wild cherry, leather, tobacco, and frisky acidity.
