Valle del Colchagua, Valle del Rapel, Region del Valle Central, ChileCoyam is a winner from top to bottom, and considering it is an important Chilean red, the price is an absolute giveaway at $29.99. Well-balanced, it opens with a dense, dark colour that describes its perfect textures. It has been farmed biodynamically and certified organic for years, only adding to its attraction. The blend is 42% syrah and 39% carmenere followed by cabernet sauvignon, malbec, garnacha, petit verdot, carignan, tempranillo, and mourvèdre, all grown at an idyllic site in Colchagua. The nose is an expressive black olive, floral, cocoa with classic mint in the background. Round and ripe, the tannins are seamless, and the acidity is perfect. It is aged for 13 months in French oak spanning several years and sizes. I love that winemaker Noelia Orts has taken this Alvaro Espinoza inspiration to even richer heights. Los Robles refers to the native oak trees that surround the property.Tasted: 06 September 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Valle del Colchagua, Valle del Rapel, Region del Valle Central, ChileThis well-proportioned sleek and seamless red is one of the best value wines out there, even at $29.99. Biodynamically farmed and certified organic, It is an intriguing blend of 42% syrah and 39% carmenere with smidges of cabernet sauvignon, malbec, garnacha, petit verdot, carignan, tempranillo, and mourvèdre from a superb site in the rich silt clay soils of Colchagua. 'Los Robles' refers to the native oak forests that carpet the valley, creating a breathtakingly beautiful park-like environment teeming with birds, insects, and flowers. Coyam presents classic Chileano aromas of black olive, cassis, violet, cocoa, and the definitive heady menthol scent of eucalyptus. It's ripe and mouthfilling, but most importantly has the archetypal suave balance of fruit, acid, and tannin that defines Chilean wine. Vivid acidity and firm but melting tannins imbue Coyam with surprising freshness and striking architecture, allowing it to have weight without heaviness. The 2018 vintage was aged for 13 months in French oak (various ages and sizes of barrels) which adds a layer of spicy gloss to this fruity/savoury thoroughbred. Coyam ages effortlessly (verticals I have tasted attest to this) and will adorn a grilled porterhouse with power and grace. Give 30 minutes in a decanter to allow complexity to shine. Winemaker Noelia Orts would highly approve of serving it at a cool 18 degrees Celsius.Tasted: 21 July 2021Tasted by: Prices:
