Meyer Family Vineyards Pinot Noir McLean Creek Road Vineyard 2018

Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAt Meyer, they describe 2018 as “another tough vintage.” Summer arrived quickly, and the hot, dry conditions brought early forest fires that remained for the entire growing season. The smoke layer in the sky blocked out some of the sunlight and reduced daytime temperatures, which became ideal for vine development. The problem was a cool September leading to increased hangtime and later picks. At Meyer, the fruit was picked in mid-to-late September. McLean Creek Road Vineyard is their home vineyard in Okanagan Falls. The sparse, sloping, sandy alluvial/glacial gravels and sandy loams support five Pommard and Dijon clones (114, 115, 91, 667, 777) each farmed (not certified) organically, plot by plot. The finished juice went into French oak (25 percent new) for 11 months and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. It is young but presents with less than the usual exuberance at this point, with more earthy, sour cherry, raspberry over a spicy forest floor base. The balance is perfect, the alcohol a modest 13.5 percent, but the good news is you can enjoy it now. It was perfect with a curry chicken dish.Tasted: 13 February 2020Tasted by: Prices:
