Meyer Family Vineyards Pinot Noir McLean Creek Road Vineyard 2014
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis steeper, gravelled Okanagan Falls vineyard is planted with five French pinot noir clones spread across three different blocks, bringing diversity to the final cuvee. After a cold soak, partial wild yeast ferment and lengthy warm fermentation, this went into French oak barrels (24 percent new) for eleven months. Wild strawberry, raspberry, forest and fine textured minerality stream through this finessed, medium-bodied red, structured with a fine backbone and moderately grippy tannins. Impressive in youth, but will reward even more with a couple of years in the cellar.Tasted: 26 September 2016Tasted by: Prices:
Meyer Family Vineyards Pinot Noir McLean Creek Road Vineyard 2014
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe nose is a mix of rhubarb and strawberry with a touch of forest floor. The attack is firmer and drier than the ‘Okanagan blend’ with more spice and mid-palate weight and surprisingly some grippy tannins in the back end. I would leave this alone for three years to give it some time to settle in. Definitely a candidate for duck or grilled salmon. Mclean Creek Road Vineyard is on the home site. Its relatively steep slope, faces south, west and north west and sits over a mix of stony/sandy alluvial and glacial deposits. The vines mix five different Burgundian clones, both Pommard and Dijon, on three distinct blocks. Each block is managed separately using organic principles. The wine spends 11 months in French oak, 24% is new.Tasted: 05 August 2016Tasted by: Prices:
