Penfolds Shiraz Kalimna Bin 28 2016

South Australia, AustraliaBin 28 is a multi-regional blend that is a “showcase of warm climate Australian shiraz” and what it can do in American oak. Yes, this will appeal to fans of ripe, oaky reds, but there’s still Penfolds’ hallmark elegance and traditional sensibilities. Blackberry compote and iodine combine with espresso and vanilla from the oak, which is harmoniously integrated at this stage. It’s not as powerful as you might think at first sniff, more medium-bodied than full, with grainy tannins from the wood, and moderate acidity. I find the fruit character already slightly evolved, so I’m hesitant to recommend this for the cellar, but it makes for a fine pour now.Tasted: 02 November 2019Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
