M. Chapoutier Hermitage Chante Alouette Blanc 2015

Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceAlways good, the 2015 is an exceptional bottle of Chante-Alouette, one third of which is fermented in large 600-litre oak barrels, with the remainder in vats. The fruit comes off three serious sites: Le Méal, an old fluvioglacial alluvial deposit; granitic and alluvial Les Murets; and Chante-Alouette, set on loess soil with a fine layer of clay and limestone. This is a complex 100 percent marsanne. The attack is rich and powerful with intense pear, lemon, and bitter orange notes of bergamot. The palate is long and persistent with ripe peach, acacia, almond flavours that finish over minutes. I suspect this will age endlessly in a cool dark cellar. The fruit is farmed biodynamically. Try this with rich, powerful white meat dishes, or cheeses. Real wine.Tasted: 29 September 2018Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
