Painted Rock Cabernet Franc 2015
Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2015 vintage kicked off early and the rest of the growing season followed suit with record breaking temperatures. Some creative canopy management helped to extend the season a bit to encourage full phenolic ripeness, and ripe tannins to better balance off the sugars and eventually the alcohol. The ‘15 Franc is aged 18 months in 30 percent new French oak and is only the third single bottling at Painted Rock. I said it last year and I will say it again. When you taste this cabernet franc, you must ask yourself why does anyone bother to try and ripen cabernet sauvignon in BC? It's big, with less finesse this year, but the overall wine is still impressive and will have legions of fans who prefer the warmer, riper style of 2015. Smoky, savoury, leafy aromas mark the nose and palate with coffee, chocolate, tobacco/resin, toasted oak and black fruit flavours. This needs time, as in five-to-seven years, to settle in and show its merit. Lamb, lamb and lamb is the match.Tasted: 14 December 2017Tasted by: Prices:BC | $44.99 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops |
