Painted Rock Cabernet Franc 2023
Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is a dense, full flavoured red with a savoury cedar undercurrent that permeates the red and black fruit palate through the finish. The tannins are dense but sweet, contributing to a refined mouthfeel and long, textural finish. I would cellar this for at least five years, then begin drinking it over another 5 to 7 years and likely beyond. 2023 is considered a challenging vintage for much of the Okanagan Valley because a winter cold snap caused significant bud damage. Those vines that were unaffected performed well. On the Skaha Bench, it seems Painted Rock escaped the worst of the damage. Summer was hot and dry, and in the end it was the earliest harvest on record. The franc is all hand picked from a single 2.15 acre block, and berry sorted.
