Continuum 2012

Napa Valley, California, United StatesIt was a perfect year on Pritchard Hill and the 2012 is all Pritchard Hill (Oakville) fruit from 21-year-old vines. This is a terrific bottle of wine whose quality reflects a sorting of the lots that eliminated or (declassified) thirty percent of the wine. Tim Mondavi continues the journey and while his style remains focused there’s some irony in that this exquisite, restrained (for Napa) red with a bit of a Euro bent is now much more widely accepted by the American press and public. Too bad they didn’t think that way in the 1980s when shunned Tim’s ‘elegant’ wines ne might still be at Robert Mondavi with his family. Enjoy this silky, plummy red fruited blend that is long on polish and restraint. Mineral, complex and persistent this is all it can be and more. The 2012 is a 78/11/6/5/ mix of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and petit verdot. A warmer, drier more normal year with almost no heat spikes brought the harvest five days earlier than normal. Cellar through 2020 and then drink slowly over the next decade.Tasted: 03 May 2016Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
