Insoglio del Cinghiale 2007

Bolgheri, Tuscany, ItalyInsoglio del Cinghiale is base wine of the great Tenuta di Biserno grown at Bibbona in the northern Maremma region. It was created to be the wine you drink while you wait for its big brother: Biserno. The style is much more approachable, that tannins supple with an intense swath of savoury red fruit and liquorice all in balance. It's a mouth-watering blend of syrah, cabernet franc and merlot that keeps you wanting another taste after each sip. It is also a bit cleaner in style and a little less rustic than previous editions. It is still a country red but with a real sense of style. Only 40 percent of the wine is aged for 4 months in new and second year French oak barrels. The rest is left in stainless steel tanks. Great value.Tasted: 23 September 2009Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
