Monte Antico Toscano 2004

Santa Lucia, Pisa, Tuscany, ItalyMonte Antico is a proprietary label of Neil & Maria Empson a wine they have been involved with for now more than 30 years. The sangiovese under the baton of maestro Franco Bernabei carries minor percentages of merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Look for a smoky, meaty, gamey nose with flecks of pepper, saddle leather, some black olive and plum notes in the back. Round, dry, supple, slightly tight palate with good acidity. Cherry, black olive, smoky, meaty, peppery, resin, tobacco and carrot flavours with a rooty, gamey finish. Solid sangiovese with a bit of a rustic attitude to go with tomato and meat dishes.Tasted: 22 January 2009Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
