This week we offer a tiny break from the crushing rise in wine prices in British Columbia with a list of highly vetted red wines that represent at least a modicum of value.
From supply issues to punitive taxes, consumers are being hammered from all sides. The ad valorem system in BC is at its worst during times when price hikes are rampant and ongoing. The pandemic has set off a long line of price hikes on just about every good and service in the wine business, while the monopolies sit back and apply their crushing markups and taxes to already inflated wine prices, making windfall profits and not adding a single cent of quality to the product or their service. Stock up, as you will only pay more down the road.
