Painted Rock Chardonnay 2023
Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaOnly 30% of the 2023 chardonnay underwent malolactic fermentation, which is just about the sweet spot in my estimation for BC chardonnay made south of Kelowna. This is evident in this wine's bright, fresh character. The fruit is pleasingly ripe, pitching lemons and tropical melons that fill the mid-palate with some help from lees and early morning bakery scents. Dry and clean, this wine has had some light bitter notes in the finish, but they are gone this year. Bravo to that and the new complexity. The chardonnay was a hand harvested blend of the three clones from Painted Rock’s single vineyard site. Post ferment, 80% was aged for 6 months in oak (55% was new French oak), and the remaining 20% was held in stainless steel. This wine sells out instantly every year, but you can look for it in private wine shops and restaurants.Tasted: 14 November 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $44.99 | 750ml | winery only |
