The graceful texture is almost weightless, but still very persuasive with lighter red berry, Cowichan Valley’s signature forest floor, and frictionless tannins. Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaThe introductory Unsworth Pinot comes off its Cowichan estate hillside blocks. It is fermented in stainless steel before aging for 15 months in (15% new) French oak. Look for classic perfumed island aromas led by dark plums, ripe raspberries dusted in baking spices, and green forest floor scrub with bright acidity. The lightness and ethereal nature of this 12.1% pinot seal the deal for aficionados. Complex and thought provoking, it is the essence of pinot noir, which you can drink most nights with uncomplicated foods. There's an understated confidence to the winemaking, with an approach that is both thoughtful and sophisticated, and keeps the focus squarely on the fruit. It's floral and perfumed, backed by pure wild strawberry and raspberry fruit, and beautifully framed by toasted oak spice (15% new wood). Pretty and perfumed with wild plum and raspberries, this is scented with an alluring herbal scrub, and lifted with effortless acidity. Tannins are fine and long, guiding this delicate and finessed pinot to a lingering stony, saline finish.
