Black Hills Syrah 2022

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2022 BHE Syrah wowed the judges at the National Wine Awards as it should. This is one of winemaker Ross Wise’s babies, and despite a great deal of deep freeze damage in 2022 and 2024, they will continue to grow it moving forward on steeply sloped vineyards where it seems to thrive in the south Okanagan. Look for clean, crunchy black fruit laced with ripe cherries and black plums, graphite, and minerals. There is plenty of tension here, with a wonderful floral undercut, and peppery, fine grained, dense tannins. Some reduction lingers early on in the glass before blowing off. Make no mistake, this is a majestic Rhône-esque red that will take the likes of lamb or pork with ease. I think you should hold this a decade or more before opening, but don’t let me stop you from enjoying it in all its robust youth.Tasted: 06 August 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
