Chateau Lassègue 2018

Saint Émilion, Libourne, Bordeaux, FranceThe soft, sometimes cozy style of St Emilion is at its best with opulent Lassègue. Its old vines grow on the south/southwest hills that are an extension of the clay and limestone soils of the Côte de Saint-Émilion. Winemakers Pierre and Nicolas Seillan do a marvellous job of marrying the savoury aromatic cabernet franc with the dense old vine merlot, stiffened by a touch of cabernet sauvignon. The result is the much-used axiom of power and elegance that, in this case, speaks volumes of winemaker Seillan. The wet vintage was somewhat problematic, but with particular attention to the vines, the result was excellent. Look for a deep black-purple colour. On the nose, the richness of the merlot is complemented by the savoury extravagance of the cabernet franc. With time, a floral undercarriage and freshness pull the finish to a long silky, balanced finish. The 2020 blend is 62% merlot, 35% cabernet franc, and 3% cabernet sauvignon.Tasted: 06 January 2023Tasted by: Prices:
