The old vine vineyard Single Block 5 dates back to 1978, now 45 years ago, suggesting this is something to treasure. The clone 21B riesling vines are content to sit in deep silty soils sheltered from the late afternoon and early evening sun by even older Ponderosa pines, another Okanagan institution. A 45 days cold ferment is followed by a few months on its lees and two full years in the bottle. The attack is intense, with plenty of citrus and some unusual upfront tropical pineapple. Otherwise, the savoury, wet stone, and bright, juicy acid flood the palate and carries you through the finish. This was handpicked, gently whole bunch pressed, settled and fermented cool for 45 days before resting a few months on lees, plus 2 years in bottle prior to release. You are tasting the magic of site, and time. Savoury crushed stones are woven with lime pith and peel, crunchy green apple, and scrubby desert flowers. Acidity is juicy and well placed, easily lofting this through a lingering saline, white pepper finish.
