Tantalus Old Vines Riesling 2020

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Tantalus Old Vines Riesling is a Canadian treasure which likely means that eventually you won't be able to buy it in Canada. But for now, it is a British Columbia secret. If you want to buy some, especially at $39, do not delay. The old vine vineyard Single Block 5 dates back to 1978, now 45 years ago, suggesting this is something to treasure. The clone 21B riesling vines are content to sit in deep silty soils sheltered from the late afternoon and early evening sun by even older Ponderosa pines, another Okanagan institution. A 45 days cold ferment is followed by a few months on its lees and two full years in the bottle. The attack is intense, with plenty of citrus and some unusual upfront tropical pineapple. Otherwise, the savoury, wet stone, and bright, juicy acid flood the palate and carries you through the finish. Iconic, unique and as compelling as it gets for Candian riesling, you can serve this with anything or solo. Real Wine and an incredible value.Tasted: 05 May 2023Tasted by: Prices:
