Eduardo Torres Acosta Versante Nord 2019

Sicily, ItalyEduardo Torres Acosta, Canaries born, first began working with vines in Tenerife where his family had a small plot of land. In 2012 Eduardo moved to Sicily, interning at Azienda Arianna Occhipinti, and moved on to an enologist position at Azienda Passopisciaro, pioneer of Etna's new wave. Eduardo’s began renting several choice parcels on Etna for his own project, made until the 2017 vintage at Arianna Occhipinti’s estate in Vittoria. Since her facility is not on Etna, the wines were not allowed DOC status, hence the IGT Terre Siciliane designation. Even though Eduardo was able to convert a small Etna garage into a winery, he decided to keep the wines IGT. This organic nerello mascalese (with a splash of Nerello Capuccio) comes from 2 parcels off the cooler, north facing side of Mt. Etna, between 750-950m. It was native fermented, 10% whole cluster, and macerated for 15 days. Once vinified, the wine is aged in 750 and 3,000 litre Slovenian oak foudres. There's a strong stony savoury volcanic grit and grip here, bedding wild raspberry, wild cherry, along a strict and straight palate. Acidity is marine buoyed, and tannins are finely furry, pinning this medium red to a crushed rock end. Really smart, forward winemaking.Tasted: 25 March 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
